I went to the Anish Kapoor exhibition at the Hayward Gallery with three fellow OCA students. It was such a great day which prompted so much lengthy dialogue about his illusionistic work.

The works relating to the internal organs and the body, whilst very clever are not particularly to my taste and I had no desire to engage with them. However the illusionistic works were phenomenal and completely drew us all in.

What fascinated me the most was Kapoor’s ability to make you question what you’re looking at. Standing in front of some of the pieces, we were all questioning ourselves on what we were actually seeing, making the perception itself part of the experience.

His play on light, space and depth, something that initially appears to be a simple form, becomes something far more intriguing the longer you look at it.

It was intriguing that all four of us had quite different interpretations of what was happening and how our perceptions can be so easily manipulated. It certainly enthused some great dialogue between us.
