Practice and Research Project Plan.

What are you going to do for your practical or creative project(s)?

I would like to continue with the River sketchbook experiments, the map drawings, mixed with water, oil and inks, printing from found objects and detritus from the river edge and the aftermath of the flooding. I would like to extend this work by exploring maps of the floodplain where we live, satellite and drone images of the physical flooding with photographic support. Using a mixture of medium throughout and linking appropriate artists for inspiration.

Are you doing a Critical Review or Dissertation?

Critical Review.

What does your research explore, and what is your research question?

My research previously has included Jessica Warboys and Juan Downey. To continue, my intentions are to research and connect with Ann-Marie James, Margaret Vanderpass, Susan Reuter, Matt Cusiick and Clement Valla. Long term I shall probably move forward with three of these artists.

I have a huge fascination with water and my love-hate relationship with it. I enjoy using it in various formats within my practice.

My aims are to connect viewers to my experiences, to illustrate intrigue, interest and colour, in a variety of unusual media, and embrace the use of the natural environment within my work.

During my processes, I try not to limit myself to one source of medium,  enjoying the unknown as the media mixes with other elements, particularly the river water, algae and sediment.  This loss of control and embracing the disengagement of structure, creating different and diverse interpretations of my practice.

Creating art is a process that fills me with a sense of achievement,  accomplishment, of being whole and undivided, being honest with what I am.

My use of materials depend on what I can safely take from the environment, using detritus, stagnant water, fresh water, algae, rocks, leaves, stones, and what is pushed up on the banks of the river.

Why have you chosen these practice and research projects?
Think about the connections between your practice and research

Drawing with varied emotional influences, from dealing with personal trauma to feelings of contentment and happiness, using close observation and the physical environment to create both detailed and ambiguous, imprecise pieces. My experiences of losing our home to flooding, rebuilding our home and flooding again this year (2024) is how I would like to start this journey. I have previously made work relating to this event , however I have new and interesting thoughts to move it forward.

How will you schedule your project within the unit structure?

Project 1 – Project Plan – Finish end of November 2024

Project 2 – Research one of the artists in my suggested list. Continue with the river sketchbook experiment. End December 2024

Project 3 – Research another of the artists in my suggested list. Experiment with water and map illustrations. End January 2025. Start Critical review.

Project 4 – Experiment with drone footage of the flooding, what could this lead too? Research another of the artists in my suggested list.

Project 5 – Submit first draft of Critical Review

Project 6 – Start Project B
Project 7 – Submit final draft of Critical Review

Project 8 –

Project 9 –  Project 10 – Finish Project B.

Who else will be involved in your project?
