River Sketchbook – 2.

I have been trying to sort my thoughts, ideas and intentions out for my practice and research plan. This exploratory work, collaborating with the river and submerging a sketchbook for a few days to see the results, is something I want to continue with.

This time, as well as using the leaves, branches and twigs, I picked up some litter, bubble wrap, brown paper and some wrappers.

I changed the paper to hand made, much thinner and much softer. In addition I used a little tube watercolour before pressing the paper and the items between the tiles.

I left this for a few days, safe, with no littering. These were the results. The marks were quite visible, particularly the bubble wrap and some of the more firm leaves. There were many layers of textures, quite defined in some areas.

Interestingly, the colour hadn’t moved much, I thought it would be more fluid , however to obtain the maximum amount of marks the tiles need to be pulled tight and my thoughts are the paint couldn’t move despite being so wet. There was also a lacking in natural colour and I was wondering whether this was because we have definatley turned a corner towards winter? For the next one I shall think about different mediums and paper thickness.
